INFERTILITY FRUSTRATIONS: YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

with No Comments

One of the most exhausting things about infertility is the roller-coaster of emotions that come with each new cycle. All too many times our patients come to us feeling absolutely FRUSTRATED.

Frustrated for having to take their temperature every morning.

Frustrated that sex is now scheduled and has lost all luster.

Frustrated that people won’t stop asking “when are you going to have a baby?”.

Frustrated when our newsfeeds are full of pregnancy announcements and baby photos.

The list continues.

Infertility, isn’t easy and no one is EVER prepared to deal with it. Fortunately, we have resources to offer women or couples struggling to conceive. A huge part of dealing with the emotions is expressing them. It sounds simple, but it’s often very difficult to do it. The biggest reason is SHAME.

From the frustrations, shame starts to creep in…

Shame for “being the problem”.

Shame for “not giving your parents grandkids”.

Shame for feeling jealous of your friends.

The list, again, continues.

So expressing and releasing these thoughts and feelings is one big part of healing. But what do you do, if the shame is so strong that you just can’t?

We Think ACUPUNCTURE is the Answer.

Acupuncture is not only amazing for balancing hormones, decreasing stress, and improving IVF outcomes (as you will learn next friday!) but IMPORTANTLY, it allows us to let go of emotions that we just don’t want to talk about. It brings about huge emotional releases when we need them the most.

When we choose to ignore or suppress these emotions, we then move from shame to ISOLATION.

Isolation from family members.

Isolation from our friend’s baby shower.

And even Isolation from the person, we love and is struggling alongside us, our partner.

We are here to let you know, first and foremost that you are NOT alone. Your emotions are validated, and there is NO reason to feel ashamed of them. And yes, infertility is 100% frustrating!!

We encourage you to talk to a trusted-friend or family member about what you’re going through. If you feel like you can’t, a big part of Naturopathic Medicine is counselling. We see firsthand the impacts of infertility and we are here to support you through it. If you really really just don’t want to talk about it, come in for regular acupuncture. It’s benefits are endless, so be sure to stay tuned for next week’s blog on Infertility and Acupuncture.

And lastly, both of us our in the midst of setting up infertility support groups through the Canadian based organization Fertility Matters. These will be held by Jodie in Dieppe, New Brunswick and Samina in Kitchener, Ontario. It’s a safe and intimate way to express, feel understood, and most importantly know that you truly are not alone.
Please Share our blog if you know someone who would benefit from these messages, xo.
