Walnuts are by far my favourite. I will usually ta Walnuts are by far my favourite. I will usually take a small bowl like this and eat it with a few pieces of dark chocolate.

Walnuts are considered unsaturated fats. There are two types of unsaturated fats:
- monounsaturated fats
- polyunsaturated fats

Omega 3 fatty acids are known as polyunsaturated fats.

These are the healthiest type of fat. These types of fats reduce inflammation and promote healthy blood sugar and cardiovascular health.

Other unsaturated fats include walnuts, olive oil, almond and avocados.

Women with insulin resistance should consider incorporating healthy fats in each meal this is essential to keeping insulin and blood sugar regulated.

The amazing thing about walnuts is 1/4 cup will provide you with about 2,270mg of Omega 3 fatty acids. This is huge! Typically about 2-3grams of Omega 3 in a day is recommended.

Do you like walnuts? How do you like to eat them?

Insulin resistance is one of the key symptoms pres Insulin resistance is one of the key symptoms present in abdominal weight gain, inflammation, and PCOS. What most people don't know, however, is that this can manifest in our skin's health and appearance.
.
Acne for example, do you know why it's associated with insulin resistance? Or that there are other very specific ways that our skin can give us clues about insulin resistance, such as hair loss, darkening of skin in the underarms or neck area, hidradenitis suppurative (this looks like boils) and skin tags.

This year has been tough with figuring out how to This year has been tough with figuring out how to get my body moving.

My osteopath recommended doing the stairs in the condo I live and it has honestly changed my life. Sounds so simple but honestly, it has been the best way to get my body moving and it literally involves me putting on some clothes and running shoes and that's it!

A lot of my patients are having trouble figuring out how to get their body moving during this time. It can be very difficult with working from home.

Here are some ideas:
🏋🏽 grab some 5-pound weights, keep them near your desk and right after you finish work or during your lunch break, do 3 sets of 10 squats, 10 lunges, and 10 bicep curls.

🚶🏽‍♀️move your body, if you have the opportunity to listen to calls without being on video get up and walk around your house while doing the call or go for a walk outside!

🖥️ Join online fitness classes like zumba, or search medium intensity interval training on Youtube. You could also get some resistance bands and use them to work out your muscles.

🎶 Put some music on and dance.

Even though we are living in a pandemic, in a lockdown without access to the gym, this can't be our excuse! There are so many ways to get your body moving. Even if it is for a few minutes :)

LET'S TALK THYROID, ⁣ In our brain the hyp LET'S TALK THYROID, ⁣
In our brain the hypothalamus releases thyroid releasing hormone this signals to the pituitary gland in the brain to release – thyroid stimulating hormone AKA TSH. ⁣
.⁣
This signals to our thyroid to release T4 (Thyroxine). T3 (Triiodothyronine) is our more active thyroid hormone since it is 4 times more potent than T4. ⁣
.⁣
The majority of T3 is made from the conversion of T4 to T3. It plays a part in almost every single cell in our bodies to regulate metabolism. Metabolism is our ability to convert oxygen and calories into energy.⁣

Thyroid hormones also help with growth and development, body temperature, heart rate, energy, helps with protein synthesis and can increase serotonin in our brain (our happy hormone).⁣

Thyroid health is also important for many reasons including fertility, weight loss, reproductive health, menstruation and more. ⁣

Hydration is key! Especially while working from Hydration is key! Especially while working from home. A lot of my patients are struggling right now to keep their water intake high enough. I know I was, and I decided to buy a new water bottle that I have been eyeing for a long time now! This is the glass water bottle by bkr.
.
What does your water bottle look like? Water is the most important thing we should be making sure we get everyday! Especially because most of our body is made up of water. ⁣
. ⁣
I find it easiest to drink from a water glass bottle since I like my water at room temp, it works! But that’s just me! Find what gives you the motivation to drink water and stick to it. Whether it is a fancy water bottle, notifications from your phone, a break in your schedule to drink water, keeping the glass right beside you, havening your home work buddy reminding you etc! Glass or stainless steel is best to ensure no chemicals are leaching into your water. Plastic water bottles should be avoided! ⁣
. ⁣
Majority of the time when I ask patients how much water they are getting they say - “not enough!”⁣
. ⁣
The best way to know if you are getting enough water in the day is by checking your urine. If it is a slightly yellow and not deep yellow that is concentrated you should be getting enough. Most adults need 8 glasses a day, however. ⁣
. ⁣
Lastly, hydration is key for fertility. The more dehydrated you are the thicker the semen and the harder for sperm to swim through to meet the egg. The same goes for women, thicker cervical discharge can be a sign of dehydration. The thicker the cervical discharge, the less likely sperm are able to swim through effortlessly. ⁣Also, the more hydrated you are the more plumpy your follicles will be that house your eggs. We want nice and plumpy follicles, not shriveled up grapes (aka raisins). Hope that gives you a good picture!
