As we age, we tend to produce less stomach acid. Also, Intrinsic Factor (IF) protein is released from cells in the gut and must bind to B12 so that it can be absorbed in the small intestine! Some people do not produce Intrinsic Factor resulting in pernicious anemia. .

Vitamin B12’s role is to create red blood cells, it has a role in DNA synthesis, helps to carry out neurotransmitter function and helps with hormone production, helps to create hemoglobin, plays a role in the development of the fetus during pregnancy, and more. .

✨How do you determine if you have a Vitamin B12 deficiency? The best way is through getting a lab test to determine your levels. .How do you get more B12? There are a few ways:

1) Through your diet! Foods highest in B12 include organ meats (ie. liver), wild caught fish, pastured-raised poultry, grass fed beef. Meaning vegans/vegetarians have lower levels of B12.

2) Through a vitamin supplement – the best is a lozenge under the tongue! OR

3) Through a prescription for injections. .

✨Injections of B12 go into the muscle and are rapidly absorbed in comparison to oral forms which take longer to absorb!
